A Fibonacci Calculator is a trading tool used to calculate Fibonacci retracement and extension levels — price levels that traders use to predict:
- support areas
- resistance areas
- pullbacks
- profit targets
- trend continuation zones
It is based on the famous Fibonacci ratios derived from the Fibonacci number sequence.
Common Fibonacci Levels
| Level | Meaning |
|---|---|
| 23.6% | Weak retracement |
| 38.2% | Moderate retracement |
| 50.0% | Psychological level |
| 61.8% | Golden ratio |
| 78.6% | Deep retracement |
How it works
A trader selects:
- a swing high
- a swing low
The Fibonacci Calculator then automatically computes the retracement levels between them.
Example:
- Low = 100
- High = 200
The 61.8% retracement level is calculated as:
200−(200−100)×0.618
Result:
- 138.2
This means traders may watch around 138.2 for possible support during a pullback.
Why traders use Fibonacci
Traders use Fibonacci levels to:
- identify buy/sell zones
- place stop losses
- estimate take-profit targets
- find trend continuation areas
Fibonacci Retracement vs Extension
| Type | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Retracement | Measures pullbacks |
| Extension | Predicts future targets |
Common extension levels:
- 127.2%
- 161.8%
- 261.8%
Example in forex
Suppose EUR/USD rises:
- from 1.1000
- to 1.1200
A trader may expect a pullback toward:
- 38.2%
- 50%
- 61.8%
before the trend continues upward.
